This course emphasizes proper rigging, timing, spacing and overlapping.

Industry training

In Pantomime course students have a unique opportunity to work on the animated series My babushka smokes a pipe. This is a production of OCA school which has been recognized for its quality and has won awards at film festivals in Paris, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and other.

Our approach

OCA — Online Animator Internship

Students of our school are working on an animated series My Babushka Smokes a Pipe and we are happy to invite everyone to be part of our team. Animators from all over the world join the project and work under the mentorship of Ivan Pavlov, the founder of the school.

Ivan used to work as an animator at Soyuzmultfilm, the oldest Russian animation studios. He has been teaching animation in schools for many years now and works at Realtime UK. At some point Ivan had an idea to create a school with the opportunity to practice on a real project.

The first episode of the series was finished in the autumn of 2020 and has been part of many international festivals since then.

Participation in the internship (and admission to advanced courses) is granted upon the assessment of a student's demoreel.

Course structure

  1. Webinar

At the online webinar, the teacher goes through the theoretical part, shows what the students will later repeat as part of their home assignment, and answers any possible questions.
  2. Assignment

The student watches the recording of the lesson and does his/her assignment.
  3. Review

The supervisor checks the assignment, analyzes mistakes, and gives ideas for improvement.

I started my career as an animator with this school and I never regretted it! I came to the course Maya Beginner and already finished the Body Mechanics. The group always has a pleasant atmosphere, appropriate humor, teachers know their job. Accessible lectures, clearly defined goals. In case of problems, I wrote to support. They respond immediately, enter the situation and find a solution. I will continue my studies in this school. I recommend it.

"I'm about 30 and I don't like my job" - with this thought I started my way into animation. I started like everyone else with balls. When I realized that this was "it", I decided not to prolong the learning process indefinitely and started looking for an animation school. OCA school - stood out from many other schools, the number of positive reviews, which made it easier for me to choose. And the fact that Anton Ananyev became my first mentor in animation, I consider it my personal luck. An excellent animator, a teacher of high level, who keeps in touch even between classes, a person with a huge reserve of patience, who repeatedly steadfastly withstood our questions. He showed us how difficult animation can be and how attractive it can be.

I completed the course completely, it was informative and exciting, at the beginning I even thought that this craft is not for me, but now I have become more confident in my abilities and I will definitely continue my studies at this school.

I am studying Pantomime with Ivan. I really like it. Ivan is the best teacher I've ever met. Ivan feels and understands animation very subtly, and not only body mechanics, i.e. logic, physics and plasticity of human movement, but also the so-called "cartoon" animation, the plasticity of classical animation, its laws and direction. Ivan gives the information clearly, with examples. And very patient with us beginners. In general, Ivan is a great guy. Thanks to him.

Excellent course by Alexei Zhuravlev. Competent lighting is a special art that is taught in very few places. But in vain. You can draw with light. You can make a harmless character look like a villain, and a boring room become mysterious.

I recommend this course to almost everyone who works with computer graphics. In addition to the artistic part about lighting, you will get a lot of useful information about how to properly adjust the materials in the scene. How to get a nice glow on any surface. How to make a "picture" beautiful and why the light works here, but not there. How to properly configure the render and refine the result in compositing. Theory and practice, lots of valuable tips and tricks, interesting homework and detailed feedback. I got a lot of useful information from this course that I am already using in my work. It was very cool, thanks Alexey.

Ivan Pavlov is a wonderful and experienced animator with a bright style. Thanks to Ivan the characters come to life and the animation breathes. He always looks carefully and thoroughly at every work, sees every little thing. All critiques were detailed and clear, and the teacher's friendly attitude made me work even harder. I was very happy to study under Ivan's mentorship and I want to continue my studies.

About the course:
An excellent course for both a beginner and a more or less experienced animator. Interesting tasks of the course will help you better understand the mechanics of the body, study each realistic movement and apply it correctly in animation. Most importantly, you will be able to see your work improve and your animation skills grow as you progress through the course. Not only will you gain new knowledge, but the reel will be filled with fresh, bright and clean work. I got even more from the course than I expected, thank you very much!

Acquaintance with the school "OCA" happened to me by chance: my test work for a job turned out to be weak, and I was advised to tighten the skill by a cool teacher - Ivan Pavlov.

I went straight to the Advanced Body Mechanics course. Although, to be honest, it was possible to go to a younger course, because I constantly tormented Ivan with my endless questions, which he patiently answered!

The impression after the course is FIRE! Fear and insecurity disappeared. Knowledge was systematized in my head. During his studies, Ivan shared not only his knowledge in animation, but also his personal experience in approach to studying. And the main conclusion: shots must be finished - this is a good habit that gives additional confidence in their abilities.

And at the end of the course, I got a job in a cool studio - CGF Studio. Now I am continuing my studies, combining work and study. Sometimes it's not easy, but it's very productive! With gratitude, Irina Kudinova.

It seemed to me that I had been standing in one place for a long time. I finished all my work to a certain point and then left it. Because I didn't like the result, but I didn't understand how to improve it. So, I would start a new animation, but everything would go the same way: I would get stuck at the spline.

After seven months of studying at another school and three months of self-study, I didn't have any work to show. But I was able to move forward!

After three months of studying at the OCA school, I had a shot ready to show. But I spent more time polishing my work. I am very happy with the final result: finally, I have a work I am not ashamed to show. And of course, a great motivation to continue. Now I am studying at the pantomime course and working on an episode of the TV series "My Babushka smokes a pipe".

A 3D animator in game development should have a lot of skills in different areas, including technical ones.

But first of all, it is necessary to animate characters well. Strong knowledge of body mechanics as the holy grail lights up the face of a 3D game animator and opens the doors to the best game studios in the world.

The game animation course can help to pump up this skill quite strongly, it is especially important that the course focuses on polishing the animation so that a good and finished work will eventually come out.

I express my gratitude to the OCA School of Animation and 3D Graphics. I recommend you to enroll in the course.

I attended the "Beginner" course at the OCA Animation School. Actually, for a long time I could not decide to go to the courses because I expected a lot of "water" during the lectures. I also hoped that I could learn the necessary skills on my own. But I ended up studying the wrong program, and then I went deeper in the wrong direction. At some point I realized that the skill of working with the program itself and the skill of creating something are two completely different things. I was looking for an animation school for a long time and I chose OCA. Because of the democratic price, courses with a gradual increase in the level of difficulty, as well as advice from the Telegram chat about animation. I have never regretted my decision. This animation school brought together experts in their field. Any incomprehensible and even in your opinion stupid question will be answered and will help you both in the technical part and in the animation itself. All training lectures are recorded and everything is on the case in them. So, all my worries were in vain. Anton is a wonderful teacher who really wants to teach. And he presents information with a foundation for the future of the students, and that is really valuable. The learning process is built in such a way that when you work in a group, you see the results of other students, and thanks to this, you not only learn from the mistakes of others, but also, seeing their progress, you want to do more. I wish future students good luck. I'm not saying it will be easy for you. But as they say, it's hard to study, it's easy to fight. And I also express my gratitude to Anton, Ivan, Anna, Rosa, Igor and all the other participants in the process. Yours sincerely, Olga, a future student of the Junior Course.
